Fictitious Story This is a fictitious story and bears no resemblance to any person or character – dead or alive and all events and situations within it are imaginary. The writer bears no responsibility for any real-life events, situations, people and characters enclosed in this story. Today I am going to describe about the life of my uncle who is two years older than my dad. He has been a self made man. All 55 years of his life have been dedicated to hard work and dedication. He has not looked back from where he started. Yet somehow or the other he still feels that a lot more is left in him and he has to achieve many more frontiers in his life. His life is all the more inspirational for me as his favorite sport is the same that is mine – cricket. In fact we do play together every now and then whenever we get time or it should be, whenever he gets time from his busy routine and hectic life. My uncle has had his due share of problems and struggles during his life. He has seen the highs and lows of life and I can safely conclude that he is all rounder by all measures of imagination. He has witnessed success when he was down in the dumps and face humiliation in the form of losses, both in terms of financial value as well as psychological pressures, but it is his genius that he never turned back on his principles and strong ideological limits and thus defeated whatever came in his way. His developmental process is such that he has only looked at the brighter side of things and never touched the negative as according to him, doing the latter can reap nothing but misery for both the individual as well as the people related with him or her. Thus he molded his life in such a manner which would only provide him solace and peace of mind whenever he was in hot waters and nothing right came across him. He has seen financial losses that took away quite a huge sum of his bank balance in late 1980s when he was doing a roaring business of textile designing yet he did not succumb under pressure from people related to him and the near and dear ones advised him to divest whatever was left in the business. He continued and marched along at the same speed, so much so that now he has his own textile factory located in the outskirts of the city. He has been a model of inspiration for one and all and I can safely call him my mentor whenever I run into any problem in my day to day life. His advice is always that has brought a new lease of life in me and helped me see things in a more positive fashion rather than just sitting and sulking over the whole issue every now and so often. His mental growth has been steady and can be easily said as being tough as he has witnessed many patchy situations, only for him to come out clean and clear in the very end. He does not take pressure rather he cools the whole situation down to his mental level and then with a sense of easiness attached with him, solves the matter in the most gentle and balanced manner possible. Physically, he has been an athlete ever since he was young. Cricket, as said before is his pastime. Though, he has also liked the athletic games like running, squash and tennis to name a few. He usually runs 2 miles every evening and barely misses a walk on Sunday afternoons in the park just adjacent to where he resides. He also drinks fresh juices and takes in a whole lot vegetable to keep ailments away and he is successful at doing the very same. Intellectually, he thinks deep and acts in a very fair and reasonable manner to every circumstance that he falls into. He does not regret problems for he feels that they are a way to make him feel stronger and much more secure than his opponents, which seem to crop up in the world of today every now and then. His cognitive behavior is one that can be written home about. He usually behaves in a very decent way and hardly has someone seem him groan over any issue or matter whatsoever. Spiritually, he is a devoted man who prays daily and talks to his God whenever he gets the time to do so. His morals hold supreme importance for him and less said the better about his breaking of the same. He does not take in any drugs or alcohol and thus remains quite fresh even when someone meets him in the middle of the night. His developmental cycle is such that one can only get inspired by him and a person who does not know him much can really have a window to a whole new world after knowing him. From this story, we get the lesson that one should observe life and then try to study from the different angles whereby one can then reach a particular conclusion about the thing at hand and then continue with the same in an elaborate manner at achieving what he thinks is best and should definitely be done by him. He must observe and take into notice the role played by the different men and women of repute and knowledge in the world and thus mold his life in accordance with their characteristics, traits and attitudes. But on the whole he should never copy any such personality in the truest sense of the word rather he must try his best at making his individual style quite unique, so much so that people like him get inspired by him and thus gain something positive. This, in turn teaches me to come out with an individual personality of my own and thus contribute something positive and different towards the society in general and more so myself in particular. Changes in my uncle’s midlife can be categorized as being two-pronged. First is the one which discusses the manner in which he took his own family through troubled times to safe shores when his father died at his tender age of seven years. Since then he took over the responsibility of educating each and every child in the family as well as looking after her mother. He worked in the night to support the family and went to school early in the morning. The second aspect of this midlife change has been one that takes into account his miseries related with financial pressures and how he coped with them in a safe and balanced manner, so much so that today he is source of bread and butter for more than 250 households. The developmental theories really help in finding out as to what in reality is the change like in a human being over the course of his or her life time and how he or she copes with it when the times are difficult and there is just about nobody to support this individual. These theories also bring to light the shortcomings that there are in a person and how this individual can cope with the very same by applying the results of these theories in his normal routine life. More than that, these pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses that are hidden in a person and tries to find out as to how the strengths can be reinforced and as to rationalize the process of turning the weaknesses into strengths over a given period of time and under difficult and trying circumstances. Thus the findings related with my uncle have more or less focused on the aspects that can be remarked as being encouraging for a person to know and gain insight from. I have been impressed with his developmental process and more so the struggle that he has quite successfully put to the best use possible. More important is the fact by which he has balanced his life and brought happiness left, right and center. He has won a number of friends and also has had his due share of enemies who detest him due to his perfection in whatever he does and his ways of winning that surely give the opponents a run for their money. In the end, I would like to summarize this story by telling the audience that life is always moving ahead and one should thus take heed and try and look towards the future rather than whining about what happened in the past. It is best to forget the past but remember the recollections since the lessons which are learned all this while leave a lasting impression on one’s personality and molds his life in accordance with the right principles of life. Life must never be dependent on any person alone. It is a dependency variable on a number of different factors of which people are also a part and this should always be the case. My life has really changed for the better ever since I started looking towards the future because that brought with it the optimism that was developed within my personality. A sense of being positive always helps in different avenues of life and I am a prime example of the said premise. Word Count: 1,571 Read More
