Berry states that there is continuous destruction of nature, a devaluation of human work, and loss of community. The article has been written with conviction, passion, and eloquence. The two articles can act as a comparison between a highly competitive society and one that is based on community values. This is clear from Calvino’s comparison between life in the village and in the USA.
