They then fight each other. Grendel mother was about to conquer but Beowulf used the sword to decapitate Grendel’s mother. In addition, he beheaded the corpse of Grendel but came back to life when Beowulf strangled her. Finally, Beowulf returns to the surface and to his men when at ninth hour. Goddesses are those who refer to motherhood, fertility, creation and are bounty of the earth. They represent motherhood in one way or the other some are associated with birth of humanity as a whole. The female characters have established roles such as hostess as shown by (wealhpeow and Hygd) and peace-weaver as shown by (Freawaru and Hildeburh).

Grendel’s mother and Modthryth represent monster-women because they challenge the roles depicted by these other women. Grendel’s mother has different traits from other women, from her exactly appearance and the way she is link to monsters and giants. Wealhpeow and Hygd: Woman as Hostess, they are both illustrated using positive terms that show their prudence. The main function of these women is that of hostess. They offer the warriors a cup of mead around the hall. Although this is unimportant function until we examine how the duty was carried out.

They are instruments of kings in the hall. By focusing them as workers of their husbands does not disservice them. Although, Wealhpeow is as cupbearer and helper of the king gave her some power authority with the organization of the war band, her role has importance on politics. Hygd held also some political power; it is depict when she attempts to give the kingdom of the Greats to Beowulf when in the end resulted in passing of his own son. Hildeburh and Freawaru: Woman as Peace weaver, these is applied to women in marriage in order to bring peace among people who are enemies.

Hildeburh is a mother and a sister in Beowulf ho is active in the connection between male sibling and child. The poet does not say whether the son was fighting his father or son in the battle when he was killed. However, Hildeburh laid his son with his uncle and cremated together because he believed that the son washers not her husband’s. His son is associated with his uncle that is his brother and the Danish people. Freawaru has small part to play in the poem than Hildeburh. Beowulf’s description of Freawaru is secondary to the story.

She actually serves as someone used to introduce conflict. He tells how she goes to court and then offers cup to warriors. He shows how she even feared the outcome of her marriage. Grendel's Mother and Woman Modthryth as Monster; they are very different types of monsters who do the opposite of hostesses and peace weavers. The women behavior is like men. They use physical strength and weapons rather than using words or marriage to create influence. The women do not welcome visitors in their homes.

They are very hostile. They are strife-weavers who just use violence to settle their disputes. Modthryth used to kill the men who came into the hall. Grendel’s mother also attacks Beowulf and anyone who came into her hall. Finally both women were tamed, Beowulf managed to kill Grendel’s mother and Modthryth got marriage to Offa. In conclusion, the women got different characters different from other women, Hildeburh, Freawaru, wealhpeow and Hygd. .in what they do, they present themselves as women who have symmetrical, contrasts and inviting contrasts to the rest.

Those other women who are peace weavers and hostess they even look out for their own interest
