Extract of sample "American Adventurism Abroad"

In 1898, America entered a new political space which was defined and supported by the ideology of war. And many wars followed in the next two centuries. The victory in the Spanish-American civil war transformed America into the most powerful imperialist force in the world and a nation having the capacity to override Britain and Spain in such matters (Sullivan, 27-30). Any of the wars fought by America can in no way be considered as related to the idea of manifest destiny. In the Spanish civil war, America’s aim was to colonize Cuba and Puerto Rico, an aim in which the US succeeded very well (Sullivan, 27-30).

There was no element of destiny in this whole gamut of things, as this was simply a planned invasion. The invasion and intervention of US repeated in about “26 states with approximately 6.6 million deaths since then” (Sullivan, 8). The nations which fell victims to American invasions include “Guatemala, Iran, Cuba, Lebanon, Laos, South Vietnam, Cambodia, Chile, Libya, Somalia” and many more. Such an enormous destructive power can never be simply justified using the excuse of destiny.

The next major war fought by the US after the Spanish-American war was the Second World War in which the world saw the cruelest weapon in human history, being used- the atom bomb. The US masterminded and commanded the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, a killing spree in which millions died.
